Your headline is a search field, not a slogan
Recruiters type job titles and skills into LinkedIn Recruiter. Your headline is one of the most heavily weighted fields in that search — every character should earn its place.
Weak vs. strong headline
- · "Passionate marketing guru 🚀 helping brands win"
- · No job title, no skills
- · Buzzwords match no search query
- · "Open to opportunities" says what you do
- · "Performance Marketing Manager | Paid Social, Google Ads, CRO | Scaled DTC spend to $2M/yr profitably"
- · Role first, then 3 skills
- · One concrete proof point
- · Every word is searchable

Last updated: August 2026
What should a LinkedIn headline include?
Three things, in order: the job title you want to be found for, 3–5 core skills recruiters search for, and one proof point or value statement. The formula that works: Role | Core skills | Proof or value.
Should I use all 220 characters?
Usually yes — more relevant keywords mean more search matches. But never pad with adjectives or buzzwords just to fill space. A tight 120-character headline full of searchable terms beats a 220-character slogan.
Which buzzwords should I avoid?
"Passionate", "guru", "ninja", "results-driven", "dynamic", "team player", "thought leader", "hard-working". Nobody types these into a recruiter search bar. Replace each one with a role, a skill, or a measurable result.
Does my headline affect recruiter search ranking?
Yes. The headline is one of the most heavily weighted fields in LinkedIn search, alongside your job titles. Headlines containing the searched title and skills rank higher and get more profile clicks in results pages.
Does this tool upload my headline anywhere?
No. All analysis runs locally in your browser with plain pattern matching. Nothing you type is sent to a server, stored, or seen by anyone.
