What size should a LinkedIn banner be?

LinkedIn recommends 1584×396 pixels — a 4:1 aspect ratio. Upload a PNG or JPG under 8 MB. This tool exports exactly 1584×396 as a PNG, so it always fits without cropping surprises.

Where does the profile photo overlap the banner?

On desktop, your circular profile photo covers the bottom-left corner — roughly the first 300 pixels from the left and 200 pixels up from the bottom. Keep your name, role and logo out of that corner; the safe-zone overlay in the tool shows the area.

What should a LinkedIn banner say?

Treat it as a billboard for your headline: your role (the title recruiters search), 3–5 core skills or a one-line value statement, and nothing else. If someone can't read it in two seconds, it has too much text.

Should I export as PNG or JPG?

PNG. Banners are mostly flat color and text, and JPG compression blurs sharp edges and small type. A 1584×396 PNG is usually well under LinkedIn's 8 MB limit.
